On 10 October 2023, representatives of Singapore and the United States (U.S.) governments met in Washington D.C. to discuss points of cooperation in civil space affairs at the first Singapore-U.S. Space Dialogue (Dialogue).

Notably, both countries agreed on prioritising initiatives aimed at a deeper understanding of climate change and environmental conditions, including disaster response preparedness, air quality research, fire and smoke detection and assessment and earth observation.

The Dialogue covered the following key areas:

  • cooperation in the maritime and aviation domains, particularly on the use satellite communications to ensure the safety of life at sea, promote the development of digital and decarbonisation solutions and improve air traffic management; and
  • the importance of sustainability and responsible behaviour in outer space, including to address the issue of orbital debris.

The Dialogue also enabled representatives from private space and research entities from both countries to participate in a roundtable on the commercial space sector and to network for new opportunities in the industry.
